We collaborated with multi-media production studio FableVision Studios to build a platform for the Phillips Foundation to educate the next generation about giving and philanthropic action.

Our goal was to create a first-of-its-kind, educational mobile app that teaches kids to tap into their unique talents and interests to help others.

Process

From early prototypes to playable minigames

We joined the Give As We Grow project from its earliest development phases, incorporating early designs into prototypes for player feedback. We created prototypes of an avatar builder, two different minigames, and an innovative "community garden" game where players could spend their earned rewards by donating to their in-game community space.

Expanding the world into a platform

Taking in feedback from playtesters, we improved gameplay on the existing minigames and added a third gameplay type. To expand the world of the game, we built a map of four different communities and reskinned the minigames with playful, location-appropriate themes and goals. Additionally, we built an in-app system for players to track their IRL ways of giving back, such as volunteer time or donations.

The mobile app was built in Unity/C# for iOS and Android.
